Ásta Kristrún

Innovation, Education and Art and Design are the fields where my professional and personal interests meet and overlap each other.

My professional passion lies in advancing and aiding people to work to the best of their abilities, both in a studying and professional capacity. After finishing my studies in Student Counseling, Psychology and French I was the first student counselor at the University of Iceland and developed the Student Counseling Service during my 18 years as its director.

As a member of the UI PR committee I was assigned to produce and direct the University's first large scale public introductions and other major events where my organisational skills were useful. After leaving the University in 1999 I have concentrated my skills and experience on counseling and developing practical tools for students - the NemaCode Interest Inventory web utility and NemaNet, a web-based personal study utility for students. NemaNet allows users to sort and categorize their data and to harness their capabilities to deliver optimal results.

After a long period of field studies and theoretical and technical development NemaNet is now ready to be marketed on the global educational market.

Along with my professional career I have nurtured my art and design needs through special assignments at the University of Iceland, such as designing the University's ceremonial podium, renovating old houses in downtown Reykjavík and by doing interior design projects in various capacities. These include the Visual Direction of "Women and Democracy", an international conference in Reykjavík, featuring Hillary Clinton as the key-note speaker.

I am presently involved in running Bakkastofa Culture House in the seaside village of Eyrarbakki, a wonderful channel for my artistic, social and entrepreneurial interests.
